Zayn Malik of One Direction took a huge -- and possibly regrettable -- step last week when he got a tattoo of his girlfriend, Little Mix singer Perrie Edwards. Now, 1D's latest ink artist is divulging details of the band's trip to the shop and under the needle, including exactly what instructions he received when etching Edwards.

"That was pretty fun times on Monday night," tattooist John Garancheski told MTV News. "They were so casual and they were such nice guys. They were super cool. They came in and they had a couple ideas of what they wanted to get done," he said of Malik, Louis Tomlinson and Liam Payne. "And Louis and Zayn were the ones who actually ended up getting tattoos. Liam had some ideas, I think, but he wasn't super committed," Garancheski added. "He went and kicked around town."

Malik told Garancheski that he wanted an image of Edwards, but "like a comic caricature kind of thing ... he wasn't pushy. He was like, 'I really want this and I'd like you to do it.' He showed me a picture of his girlfriend, Perrie, and he was like 'I kind of want it to look like her, but not to be her, to kind of be like a comic-style version of her.'" That sounds about right considering Malik's love for both his lady and his comic books!

So what did Garancheski think of the boys' array of body art? "They had a pretty wide range of tattoos ... they were sporting some pretty cool tattoos. [Zayn}] seemed like he had some pretty good work on him. From a technical aspect some of their tattoos were not so great," Garancheski admitted, "but they had some great work too. So it looked like a great collection of stuff."

Something else Garancheski loved about the boys? They're all great tippers!
