Taylor Swift’s Kicked a Bad Habit: What The VMA Drama Taught Her
Have your lighting-fast tweeting thumbs earned you the reputation of a digital quickdraw? Taylor Swift can relate, but says she's learned it's sometimes best to keep your phone in its holster.
In an interview with NME that will appear in the October 9 issue, T. Swift shared how she's changed and what she's learned in light of her infamous MTV Video Music Awards back-and-forth with Nicki Minaj.
In July, Swift criticized Minaj for her condemnation of the VMAs, which The Pinkprint rapper claimed favored white artists. The two proceeded to exchange some heated tweets before Swift ultimately apologized for being shortsighted, and she and Minaj wound up performing together once the big show finally rolled around.
"I don't want to talk about it," Swift began in the interview, but proceeded to share some insight, anyway. "But I send text messages now. If there seems to be some kind of misunderstanding, I go to someone's management, I get their number and I text them. It's an important lesson for anyone to learn in 2015."
And though Taylor's in the clear, Minaj isn't letting Miley Cyrus—who similarly chided Minaj—off the hook so easily. Yesterday, in an interview published in The New York Times Magazine, Minaj cautioned Cyrus against being a part of black culture if she doesn't first make an effort to understand the community's plight.
"You’re in videos with black men, and you’re bringing out black women on your stages, but you don’t want to know how black women feel about something that’s so important?" she demanded.
