The Wanted’s Tom Parker Blames Band’s Breakup on One Direction
Ever since their breakup/"hiatus," various members of the Wanted have spoken out about the reason behind the split -- but this time, Tom Parker has some serious fightin' words, blaming One Direction for the band's demise.
"For the Wanted to try and compete against one of the biggest bands in the world -- One Direction -- it's almost impossible," he told Digital Spy. "I don't think any band out there can compete with them at the moment."
While Parker's comments may seem a little surprising, they're not entirely shocking, considering that the British boy bands have had an ongoing feud for a while. It even got to the point where their mutual friend Ed Sheeran volunteered to step in and set things right between the two groups.
And we're not so sure that we agree with Parker's sentiment. One Direction may arguably be the biggest boy band in the world right now, but they also paved the way for a whole "boy band revival," with groups like the Vamps and 5 Seconds of Summer also seeing some pretty serious success.
In addition to his comments about One Direction, Parker also noted that there was no animosity between him and his Wanted bandmates and that the guys decided to take a break due to each member "developing new interests" -- though he hints that they may release more material together as a band in the future.
