Every week at PopCrush, we’re putting the spotlight on one up-and-coming act you need to know about. Why? So you can get on board early before everyone else and their mother jumps on the bandwagon…and so you can be that one friend in the group who’s always like, “Um, actually, I prefer their earlier work.”

Top 40 pop songs are often crafted by committee, the product of a largely-Scandinavian coterie of hitmakers alongside vocalists with varied degrees of involvement in the creative process. But well-made pop music comes in many flavors, and fortunately for all of us the digital age has made it easier for self-made, self-produced artists to connect with audiences. Allow us to introduce you to one such emerging singer-songwriter-producer, Montreal's FOXTROTT.

FOXTROTT was born Marie-Hélène Delorme. Delorme got her start releasing remixes and making beats for other acts around Montreal before debuting her own original material on Shields, her 2012 three-track EP. In addition to "Shaky Hands," which has been getting play on BBC Radio, the one-woman show recently released "Beyond Our Means," a slick and pensive track from her upcoming full-length A Taller Us.

FOXTROTT's genre-spanning concoctions are in a league of their own, though fans of electropop acts like Kate Boy, ASTR and Glasser will likely fall in love with her sound.

A Taller Us is set for release on One Little Indian Records this Friday, 11/20 — you can pre-order on iTunes now, and head over to her SoundCloud to hear more immediately.
