The 2016 Met Gala: The Outfits, The Stars, The Age of Technology
Tonight (May 2), traffic will snarl and fans will swarm around the Metropolitan Museum of Art, as this year's Met Gala, formally known as the Costume Institute Gala, takes place in Manhattan.
As with every year, the fundraising gala celebrates the year's costume exhibition at the museum, and all attendees are expected to dress according to the theme. The exhibit of 2016? Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology. (Sounds like something right up Gaga's alley, no?)
As previously reported, 1989 superstar and Apple Music spokeswoman Taylor Swift has been selected as the honorary chair of this year's ceremony, and will attend the gala with her BFF Selena Gomez.
Apple will also be sponsoring this year's event: "As products become more personal, something that is worn on the wrist put us in the space of fashion. These are issues close to our hearts...our understanding will temper and define future products we’re working on. We’re only starting," Chief Design Officer and Met Gala co-chair Jony Ive said of the sponsorship last year.
We'll be updating with all the looks coming down the red carpet (and up the stairs) at this year's ceremony.
For now, take a look at some of the most breathtaking outfits from last year's Met Gala red carpet below.
